“NATURE” Shop Sign – A Sustainable Approach

Project Story

One of the most memorable projects we’ve undertaken was crafting a custom sign for a local shop called NATURE, right here in our hometown of Daugavpils, Latvia. This project was special because it combined our love for innovation with our commitment to sustainability, all while pushing the boundaries of what we could achieve with 3D printing technology.

The owners of Nature, a shop focused on eco-friendly and natural products, approached us with a unique request. They wanted a sign that not only reflected their brand’s commitment to sustainability but also had the look and texture of real wood—an organic, earthy feel that would set their shop apart. But there was a catch: the sign needed to be thin enough to be illuminated with LED lights while being durable enough to withstand the harsh winter conditions in Latvia, where temperatures can plummet to -30°C.

The most intricate part was ensuring the sign was thin enough to let LED light pass through without compromising the structure. After multiple iterations and adjustments to the design, we managed to create a thin, yet sturdy wood-like structure that could be internally illuminated, bringing a warm, natural glow to the shop’s exterior.

To protect the sign from the severe weather, we applied a high-quality wood varnish, which not only enhanced the visual appeal but also provided essential protection against the elements. The final product was not only visually stunning but also capable of withstanding temperatures below -30°C, ensuring it would last through the harshest winters.

The final sign exceeded the owners’ expectations. The biodegradable Woodfill material gave the sign an authentic wooden appearance, while the internal LEDs provided a beautiful, soft illumination that added to the store’s eco-friendly aesthetic. The varnished finish made the sign weather-resistant, standing strong against the freezing temperatures of our hometown’s winter.
